For the third year in a row, I was fortunate enough to attend the TCM Classic Film Festival. The annual event, which takes place each spring in Hollywood, brings together Turner Classic Movie fans from across the country and even around the world. For five glorious days, attendees scurry up and down Hollywood Boulevard – racing from screenings at historic movie palaces like the TCL Chinese Theatre and Egyptian Theater to in-depth interviews with Hollywood legends like Lee Grant and Peter Bogdanovich. For a classic film fanatic like yours truly, it is heaven!
Adding to the excitement of this year's festival, I received media credentials for the first time. As part of the press, I was given a special TCM gift bag and was eligible to attend a number of unique events – like the official festival press conference with representatives from TCMHQ as well as a spot on the TCM Movie Locations Tour.
For my media contribution, I developed a social media campaign honoring the festival's special celebrity guests. My series included an original illustration of filmmakers and stars like James L. Brooks, Geneviève Bujold, and Michael Douglas. I paired each digital portrait with a quotation showing the individual's wisdom and humor. To connect my series back to the TCM brand, I used a range of hues from the TCM color palette. Once completed, I animated each design in a layered approach to add a dynamic quality and sense of movement to the finished pieces.
